Going back through player stats over 100 years old, you can't find anybody who had their best years after age 35. The only way to do that is with some help. From an historical perspective, if Bonds isn't on the juice anymore, he's going to have a tough time breaking Aaron's record. He'll be 42 this year and he needs 47 more HR's, and the only player to hit anywhere near that number of HR's at that age is Pudge Fisk, who actually hit 53 from age 42 on.
