     This is why Steinbrenner was against any of his players competing in the WBC.  I can't wait until May or June when he complains how Johnny Damon isn't worth the $52 million.  Damon was never worth that much dough, period.  He's a fine player, but definitely not among the elites in the league.  But, money is never an object to 'Ol Georgie and never hesitates to overpay a player when several other teams are after him.  The fact that Damon played for the archrival Red Sox was a bonus in this case.
