This might not be as crazy as it sounds.  Used to be a horse trainer named Frank Passero, who broke the record for most consective wins in a row, 19 I believe at Gulfstream Park in Florida.  How did Passero do it?  He used to rub red hot pepper sauce on his horses privates just before they ran and it made them run like crazy!  (They eventually caught him and suspended him)

Hard to believe a human would do that to himself, but I bet it improves his effort, just like the horses.
