Re: WFAN's Chris Russo has been saying that the Mets new stadium shouldn't be named after Jackie Robinson because he never played for the team [Reply to #4070]

I pretty much agree with him on this. I mean, you could claim that Roberto Clemente was a great ballplayer too, but should the Detroit Tigers name their stadium after him? No.
Jackie Robinson was a Dodger... he LOVED being a Dodger. If ANY team is going to honor him, it ought to be the Dodgers, even though they're not from Brooklyn anymore.
The Mets need to use this ballpark to sell their OWN tradition instead of continuing to trade on the traditions of two teams who left NYC for greener pastures out west. The Mets are not the Dodgers or the Giants, and they won't ever be -- they shouldn't be.
Why to fans follow a baseball team anyway? One of the biggest factors is TRADITION. The Yankees and Red Sox trade HEAVILY on tradition, and you can see that it works for them. Young (relatively speaking) teams like the Mets should be working on creating tradition as well.
