Cincinnati quickly disposed of Jeremy Bonderman ending the Tigers six game winning streak. Bonderman struggled with his control and was not able to get out of the fourth inning. The Reds offense came to life early scoring two runs including a Rich Aurillia home run in the second. Everything fell apart in the fourth inning for Bonderman as Cincinnati scored six runs. A single followed by two walks and a hit batter scored the third run and set the stage for the biggest hit of the game. With bases loaded Brandon Phillips tripled on the first pitch clearing the bases and coming home on Carlos Guillen’s throwing error. Guillen continues to lead the league in errors and now has 11. Bonderman was charged with seven run in three plus innings on six hits. He walked three, struck out three and gave up a home run. His ERA ballooned to 4.66 after the poor outing. Roman Colon gave up a 402 ft homer to Adam Dunn and was charged with two earned runs. Lefties Bobby Seay and Jamie Walker shut down the Reds for the final 2.1 innings. Detroit’s offense scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the 8 run lead to 5. RBIs went to Ordonez (27), Shelton (26) and Monroe (24). However, by this point the outcome of the game was pretty much decided. Marcus Thames added his sixth home run of the year in the sixth inning. Placido Polanco maintained his hot hitting with three hits pushing his average back over .300. The Tigers got two hits each from Pudge, Maggs, Shelton and Thames. Detroit’s loss coupled with the White Sox victory over the Cubs creates a tie atop the AL Central. Mike Maroth looks to start a new streak for the Tigers with a Saturday evening inter-league match-up. *** OEs 3 Stars of the Game *** #3 Chris Shelton – 2-4 with a run scored, 1 RBI, .303 AVG #2 Marcus Thames – 2-3 with a run scored, 1 BB, 1 HR, 1 RBI, .291 AVG #1 Placido Polanco – 3-5 with a run scored, .302 AVG &img-http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/images/2006/05/19/SREl7CtR.jpg-img& On Tap – Game 42 (27-14) v.
