Detroit gobbled up the KC pitching early and Bonderman added a quality start for the victory. Omar Infante ignited the offense for the Tigers with two home runs and three runs batted in. Infante got things started in the second of Royal starter Jimmy Gobble, who filled in for scheduled starter Mark Redman, with a homer to left. That was the only run allowed by Gobble who took the loss. Brandon Inge hit a two run shot in the fifth off Mike Wood to extend the Tiger lead to 3-0. An error by Doug Mientkiewicz led to an unearned run in the sixth. A fielder choice led to the second RBI for Infante. The Royal got right back into the game in the bottom of the sixth when Matt Stairs blasted a three run shot to right off of Bonderman. From then on Jeremy settled down and went seven innings on the game. Infante added an insurance run with his second home run of the game providing the final margin of victory. Fernando Rodney pitched a scoreless eighth and Jones repeated the feat in the ninth for his 15th save.
