127 0 All The Olde English Ds Game 88: Detroit Tigers 2 Seattle Mariners 3 7/14/06, 9:28am The Tigers offense went cold in the final game heading into the All-Star break. Detroit managed four hits in one inning and none in the other eight. All-Star Magglio Ordonez hit his 16th home run of the year to give the Tigers a 2-0 lead. They managed two more hits in the inning, but could not add any more runs. Detroit hitters looked tired hitting a number of lazy fly ball out. Once again pitching kept the Tigers in the game. However, Seattle did just enough to eek out the victory. Nate Robertson pitched well in his eight innings of work. He allowed nine hits and only three runs with a single walk and five strikeouts. Rene Rivera hit a two run homer in the fifth off Nate to tie the game. The heroics fell to Yuniesky Betancourt when he hit a seeing-eye single between Inge and Guillen to score the go-ahead run. Robertson deserved better in this one, but takes his fifth loss on the season and second in a row. *** OEs 3 Stars of the Game *** #3 Placido Polanco – 1-4 with a run scored #2 Nate Robertson – Loss (5), 8 IP, 9 Hs, 3 Rs, 1 BB, 5 Ks, 1 HR, 3.36 ERA #1 Magglio Ordonez – 1-3 with a run scored, a BB, a HR and 2 RBI &img-http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/images/2006/07/09/jySSXW5Q.jpg-img& On Tap – Game 89 (59-29) v.
