But that is not what I want to tell you. Check this: The Tigers had 3 of the top 31 pitchers for number of strikeouts last year - bonderman, robertson, and Maroth. That means the top 10% of SO leaders in all of baseball. Then I checked total strikeouts by team, and the Tigers were second to last. This makes no sense, and only means that their starters rule, and the bullpen blows. I have been saying this for a while, but no one believed me. Now I have stats to back it up. Furthermore, I then checked team ERA for the 2005 season. The Tigers were 3rd in all of baseball for this. Incredible. The top team was the Brewers. Both of these teams look strong this year. Interesting. Since they were 3rd best in team ERA, but didn't even finish .500 you have to wonder. Here is where they were weak: manager, base running, fielding (errors). Those things don't really show up in the box scores. Notice no errors yet this season. PS all of those pitching stats were pre-Verlander. We are finally starting to play baseball in Detroit. Shelton getting nice national exposure. [AurelioRodriguez-Lopez from Detroit/MI] Replies:
