You know, I'd always enjoyed Steiner's commentary on ESPN, and I assumed he'd made a decent broadcaster because I guess he was doing work in New York beforehand (I say this because he accidentally referred to the Dodgers as the Yankees during the first Spring Training broadcast this year).
But I've really got to agree with Reedster here. He's incredibly bland, and I think that even if you were a Dodger fan who never liked Ross, you'd at the very least appreciate the familiarity of his voice over Steiner's droning.
In Steiner's defense, I've never spent much time listening to Spring Training broadcasts before, and perhaps, like the players themselves, a broadcaster coming to a new team has to warm up for the season AND adjust to the newness of everything.
Here's hoping that by the time the Dodgers are well on their way to a 2005 World Series championship, Steiner will have hit his stride.
