Re: The all star game is looking more like a popularity contest rather than a all star game! [Reply to #188]

Well, unfortunately, the voting is final. In my opinion, this is really a joke of an all star game. There are 4 Yankees & 3 Red Sox players in the AL starting line up. You can blame much of this on the media & just the fact that New York & Boston are gigantic big markets. All we ever hear about are these 2 teams by the media, so the casual baseball fan or bandwagon fan who doesn't know any better vote for the Yankee & Red Sox players because that is all they ever hear about from the media & on Sportscenter. I bet you the casual fan, who aren't really die hard baseball fans don't know who Alex Rios, Vernon Wells, Nick Swisher, Travis Hafner, Jermaine Dye, Kevin Mench, Gary Matthews Jr., Joe Mauer, Roberto Hernandez, & Jose Lopex are? All of these guys should be on the all star team & atleast a few of them probably should be starting based off their production so far this season. The all star game is nothing more than a glamour & popularity contest now. It has become a total choke! Why don't we just have a New York & Boston ass kissing contest & say the hell with the all star game? You can throw St. Louis in that mix to! I for one am not going to watch the all star game this year, because it isn't really an all star game anymore. Baseball's mid summer classic has become a complete JOKE! How does Varitek make the AL squad batting in the 230's? Cano & Damon in my opinion shouldn't be starting either. In the NL, Edmonds is batting about 250 & starting!? Biggio & Eckstein shouldn't be starting in my humble opinion either. I think I'll watch the Teletubbies that night or re-runs of Gomer Pyle.
