Don Fehr and the players union approved much tougher penalties for steroid violations. In my view, a 50-game suspension for a first offense--as opposed to a measly 10-- demonstrates that baseball is starting to get serious in removing the steroid problem out of the game. A three strikes and your out rule will make players think twice now before doing something that's harmful to their careers, as well as their health. A more even playing field will surely benefit baseball in the long run.
