After interviewing several outside candidates for the GM position, the Red Sox have decided to look at possibilities within their organization. Director of Player Personnel, Ben Cherington, and Assistant GM, Jed Hoyer are the front-runners to jointly take the position for the '06 season. As long as they learned the ropes well under their former GM, they should have no trouble managing the job. It's a loss for the BoSox that Epstein and President Larry Lucchino had a falling out. Any smart team owner out there in desperate need of a GM will take a good look at Theo Epstein.

The two main external candidates being looked at by the Red Sox are National GM Jim Bowden and former Dodger GM Dan Evans. Both of these guys have failed to bring out winning teams in the past, so it's understandable why the Sox are looking within their organization.
