Drew Sharp's article from the Detroit Free Press expressed some of the same sentiments about Clemente that I mentioned in a previous post (click on the "History" topics link). As the first Latin star in baseball, Roberto Clemente received much of the same abuse as Jackie Robinson, on and off the field. Somehow, both of them came out of it with the truest sense of integrity. Above all else, you can't ignore the great humanitarian deeds they did off the field. The way I see it, #21 deserves a place of honor right next to #42.
