Tiger's fans have to love all the positive reports on Verlander thus far. I continue to be cautiously optimistic about his future. Dombrowski must think he will be really good since he was not willing to trade Verlander to get Josh Beckett. At the time I thought they should have made the move for a proven power pitcer, but there can be no looking back for 06 and beyond. What are other people's opinion on Dombrowski's decision not to trade Verlander for Beckett and Lowell?

Verlander is worth the gamble. His 1.25 ERA in the minors last season demonstrates that he's obviously one of the top rookie pitchers to watch out for this year. Besides, Mike Lowell's not the same player anymore, though he probably has another good year left in him, and Josh Beckett is pretty unpredictable. When game time comes around, you don't know whether Beckett will pitch like Cy Young or Anthony Young.

The more I have heard and thought about the deal or the decision not to deal the more comfortable I have become. For the Tiger's organization it is vital for the survival of the fan base to develop some legitimate home-grown talent. Hopefully this year will provide that in Verlander and Granderson.

The Marlins seem to know young pitching, and if they wanted Verlander, that has to be very encouraging. He is 23, so he must have pitched in college, and most college pitchers can make a quicker impact than high school kids right away. And the Tigers seem committed to him, so if he gets off to a rough start this year, they won't give up on him. It's fun to have someone with so much potential pitching for your team. He could be winning games and Zumaya closing them out for the next decade!

That is another good point about the Marlins interest in Verlander. He did attend college for four years at Old Dominion and dominated there. Verlander quickly moved through the minors last season to make a couple of appearences in the majors. I am excited about the possibility of those guys being mainstays on the team for years to come. The Tigers have not had a good home grown starting pitcher/closer combination since Jack Morris and Willie Hernandez
