With the big numbers put up by Ortiz, the Bo-Sox certainly made the right decision in re-signing him for $50 million, especially considering the fact that they could've re-signed Johnny Damon for the same price. Even sensible Yankee fans have to admit that Damon isn't worth nearly that much dough. So, obviously, this decision should pay off for Boston, especially if they lose Manny. It was certainly nice to see a player being paid on performance, rather than potential or to boost an owner's ego (i.e. Steinbrenner) for a change.
