Unlike many players of today, Jackie Robinson personified what true sportsmanship was all about, on and off the field. Thanks to Jackie, baseball eliminated discrimination that banned players from baseball. But, for the most part, Robinson stayed away from ballparks after his playing days because baseball failed to act by hiring black and Latin coaches, managers, and front office people. In recent years, major league baseball has been working on ending the barriers concerning coaches and managers, but has done very little in changing the faces in front offices, especially the owner and GM positions. This is 19 years after the Al Campanis controversy and I think Jackie Robinson would be very disappointed in this aspect of the game.
