The strong pitching continues out west for the Detroit Tigers. This time it was Jeremy Bonderman’s turn to put in the quality start. He benefited from the offense scoring a few runs to earn his second win on the year. Bonderman went 6 innings striking out six and allowing two runs on only three hits.

The bullpen shortened the game the final three innings. Jamie Walker did a great job in nearly two innings of work getting out the Angels tough left-handed hitters. Joel Zumaya got the final out in the eight and Todd Jones got his third save in an easy ninth inning.

The offense performed better in this game taking advantage of Hector Carrasco being forced into a spot start due to the injury to Bartolo Colon. Detroit scored all five runs off Carrasco. In the third Craig Monroe drew a walk and came around to score on a triple off the top of the wall by Brandon Inge. Inge then scored on a ground out by Polanco. Magglio hit a home run in the top of the fourth to give Detroit a 3-0 lead. The Tigers added two more in the sixth as Shelton hit a RBI single with bases loaded. The final run scored as Infante grounded into a double play.

The Tigers have the opportunity to take all three west coast series with an afternoon victory today. They have won 6 of 8 games out west and hopefully can get one more. If Mike Maroth continues his strong pitching the Tigers have a good chance to make it 7 of 9.
