For the second straight game the Tigers were shutout by a Johnson. This time it was Randy holding down the struggling Detroit offense over six innings allowing only two hits. Johnson had a no hitter going into the sixth. The Tigers only managed a single by Pudge and a double leading off the seventh by Carlos Guillen.

Bonderman didn’t have his best start, but battled into the eighth inning. He allowed two runs in third and fifth innings. In the third he was victimized by seeing eye ground balls, bloop singles and failed double plays. On two occasions Chris Shelton was pulled off first base on double play attempts leading to runs. The Yanks added a pair of runs in the fifth with two outs. Alex Rodriguez and Posada hit RBI singles following a base hit and a walk. Jason Walker and Jason Grilli combined to keep the Yankees off the scoreboard the rest of the afternoon.

Nearly 40,000 fans showed up to watch the Tigers offense get shut down again. Detroit now turns to Roman Colon who is filling in for the injured Mike Maroth. Maroth was placed on the 15 day DL.

That loss was a bummer! My cousin comes in from Tennessee and sees the Tigers get shutout twice! I didn't think Johnson had great stuff today. It just seemed like the Tigers were intimidated, nervous, and overly patient. This was another game where the Tigers got behind in counts often. They still hit some hard balls though they were just in catching/fielding range. Randy Johnson got lucky this game!!!!!!
