Nate “the Great” went seven innings for his seventh victory on the season. Robertson surrendered only five hits and two runs before giving way to the bullpen over the final two innings. Jamie Walker, Joel Zumaya and Todd Jones combined to finish off the Cubbies. Zumaya recorded his sixteenth hold while giving up a run in two thirds of an inning. Jones worked an uneventful ninth for his eighteenth save.

On the offensive side of things Curtis Granderson hit well in his hometown. He scored two runs and drove in one with a double and a triple. With the 2-3 performance Granderson raised his average to .287 on the year. Marcus Thames continues to hit for power. He hit his thirteenth home run of the year in only 143 at bats. I must admit Rmayer was onto something with his strange infatuation with Thames. Besides for the power numbers Thames is also hitting .308 on the breakout season. Detroit received a balanced offensive output getting RBI’s from Polanco, Pudge and Magglio in addition to Granderson and Thames. They quickly chased Glendom Rusch who was unable to get through two innings. The Tigers continue to play well, but can not catch a break as the White Sox continue to win as well.
