According to the Houston Chronicle, Roger Clemens' agent and the Houston Astros' GM began telephone negotiations today, discussing numbers for a possible Clemens return to the Astros. It is possible that a face to face meeting will take place later in the week. The Astros reportedly will offer Clemens a pro-rated $12 million, which, pro-rated, equals his salary of $18 million last year. Clemens, if he signs, more than likely wouldn't be able to pitch until June 1 anyway. Three other teams, the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rangers have all shown interest in acquiring the 43-year-old Clemens as well. Hopefully and likely he will want to return to his hometown of Houston, where he has spent his last 2 years. The Astros' 18-9 start should be very persuasive to him, showing him that the Astros are once again very competitive in the NL Central.

The 18-9 record by the Astros may be persuasive to Clemens, but the money offered by George Steinbrenner could be more enticing to the Rocket. My gut feeling is that he'll finish his career with the Astros and won't sell his soul to Steinbrenner for the second time because Houston's chances for a winner are more promising than the Yankees right now.

If he comes back, I hope it is Houston or Texas. Anybody but the $#&%ing Yankees! Personally, I hope he just stays retired. I don't like or dislike Roger Clemens. I just don't want to see fantasy baseball teams get stronger or a "shot in the arm" so to speak, especially if I don't own him on one of my fantasy teams.
