I have seen quite a few messages in the baseball blogosphere that have put doen Depodesta and his decision to let Beltre AND Lima go.I am one who doesn't mind either of them leaving... especially Lima. And, to those naysayers, let me present Jose Lima's first outing details from yesterday's Royals' loss:J Lima: 2 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 1 KI attended Lima's amazing performance in the playoffs last year. It was an amazing site to see. It also was a nice swan song to a mediocre career.Sure, this is a spring game... but were this an outing for the Dodgers, tell me you wouldn't be concerned.

Your commentary seems a little harsh here. I think Lima's got some good years left in him, and his first Spring Training outing doesn't concern me much. I think the Dodgers will miss his spark quite a bit -- however, I think that the team is fine in terms of strong arms, so it isn't a huge loss from that standpoint (assuming Penny stays healthy). As for Beltre, I think both he and the Dodgers handled his situation poorly. But I don't think he's going to have another year like he had last year. Seattle got a good deal, but the Dodgers probably didn't slide much with that. Given the choice, I'd probably have given up Beltre before Lima.

I'm not a Dodger fan, but I have to respectfully disagree about giving up Beltre before I would Lima. Beltre is a bad ass! I know he went to Seattle which is more of a pitchers ball park, but he'll still hit 40 home runs this season. I think he will hit around 290 or 300 & drive in a hundred. I think Beltre has arrived as a top slugger in the major leagues. I believe Beltre will be around a while as one of major league baseball's top hitters no matter who he plays for, provided he stays healthy.
