This is a continuation of the running diary of my first Free Agent Blitz auction at www.gamedayritual.com

Day Three
(10:43am) Wave 1 of the FAB is officially in the books. After the dust settled, I had only signed three players.

OF Ichiro for $12.0/3YR
SP Webb $7.0/2Y (NT)
OF Hermida $5.0/2Y

Glad I was able to get one of Ichiro, Manny & M-Cabrera. The NoTrade clause is supposed to bump up tyour offer 30% … my final offer to Manny was $15.0/3Y … he signed for $12.5/3Y (NT).
I came up a mllion short on Cabrera ($12 to $11). I also found out that I lost out to Beltran by not offering a NoTrade clause. Had same identical offer, but the other had the (NT) attached. Lessons learned.
Here are how the teams stand after Wave 1:

Leppland Lions – 6 players @ $47.5 (0 NTs left)
Laibach Kittens – 7 players @ $45.0 (0 NTs left)
Fightin’ ACLs – 7 players @ $44.0 (1 NT left)
Pastime – 7 players @ $39.0 (1 NT left)
LA Jaguars – 4 players @ $39.0 (0 NTs left)
Asian Invasion – 5 players @ $33.0 (2 NTs left)
Ginger Kids – 4 players @ $30.0 (2 NTs left)
Kielbase Nostra – 5 players @ $28.5 (2 NTs left)
CARDINALS – 4 players @ $28.0 (2 NTs left)
Kirby’s Creampuffs – 4 players @ $24.0 (1 NT left)
Green Machine – 3 players @ $24.0 (2 NTs left)
Jacob’s Crib – 4 players @ $21.5 (2 NTs left)

My strategy today: I am in the lead for the services of Barrett ($2.0/1Y) and Ensberg ($5.0/3Y). I am going to pursue MR Shields, 1B Lee, OF A-Jones and a few others.

(2:01pm) Well, well, well. I thought that I was completely out of the running for Bonderman. The little box next to his name was yellow with a zero in it. What this means is that I had zero offers left to make on him and my last bid was very competitive with the best bid and may, in fact, be the best current bid, but not in the clear. If your box is green, you are in the clear (at least 20% higher than next highest bid). I keep forgetting that yellow does not always mean that I am not in the lead. Anyways, Bonderman slides in as my SP4 and at $5.0/2Y he is very affordable.
My $8.5/3Y (NT) offer for 1B D-Lee is "in the clear" so I am rewarded with 2 additional offers, if I need them. Along with Lee, I am in the clear with Myers ($9.0/2Y), Barrett ($2.0/1Y) & Ensberg ($5.0/3Y). I have yellow boxes next to the following:
Buerhle ($9.0/2Y)
Shields ($5.0/2Y)
A-Jones ($7.0/3Y)

(4:51pm) I think I am getting the hang of it, now. Three more players were signed by the Green Machine:
SP Myers for $9.0/2Y
SP Buerhle for $9.0/2Y
2B Giles for $8.5/3Y

That blows my budget of $35 million on pitching since I am already at $30 million ...

I am still in on the following players:

1B Lee ($8.5/3Y NT)
SS Rollins ($8.0/3Y NT)
3B Ensberg ($5.0/3Y)
-----------------------
OF A-Jones ($7.0/3Y)
C Barrett ($2.5/1Y)

The top three I am currently in the lead ... the other two are too close to call.

If I land all of these ... my total payroll will be up to $86.5 with 12 players ... uh oh. That would leave me scrambling to fill the DH, SP5, MR, SU, CL & my bench with $13.5 million. It can be done.

SIDE NOTE I am not too worried about my bench. After the FAB, our salary cap is raised up to $110 million.
