Message #313 of 405  *NEW* To :   All From :   Rob Reed   Subject :   Beat the Geek League 2 Draft Results Date :   4/1/08, 1:32pm 8 teams in this league... but it was a MUCH harder draft than the 12 team version because there was so much to choose from, and it was very difficult to pinpoint actual stat needs as the draft progressed. Again, like the first league, a fun and knowledgable group of fellas. I was having some fun, though, in drafting Reyes with the 5th pick. I think this makes sense in an 8 team league, though, because I knew I could make up for the other categories quite easily (and I did that by snagging Fielder and then Carlos Lee). As round 5 began and nobody took Russell Martin, I was totally prepared to surprise some folks by taking him and I pretty much announced that fact... and Moonlight Graham (rightfully so) took me seriously. I was hoping someone would take Reyes in the 1-4 spots... alas, this is a Baseballgeeks podcast listener league after all (and folks, again, listened!!!!). I, unfortunately, did not drink the kool-aid for this draft, but being as I got Fielder, CLee, and ManRam in the next three picks, it was probably a great move. Was Reyes the best available SS on the board? You know my answer. No, he wasn't. But, he should keep me in the mix in SBs, if not lead me to #1 in that category on his back. Draft went by pretty fast which was nice. My team is celtics check it out! Looking forward to a strong season and a chance to beat the geek. I was able to get almost every player i targeted, except Parra who Rob snagged before i got the chance. I lucked out having the last pick as Cueto falls in my lap having the top waiver wire pick. I dont think i am overy strong in any category but should be able to compete in every. The outfield i drafted i feel will be the players targeted ahead of most the regulars next year. Good luck to all! except you Rob of course as who lets the host of a league win! that is just WRONG!
