Clemens agent, Astros begin negotiations
(By: MizzouAstro)

According to the Houston Chronicle, Roger Clemens' agent and the Houston Astros' GM began telephone negotiations today, discussing numbers for a possible Clemens return to the Astros. It is possible that a face to face meeting will take place later in the week. The Astros reportedly will offer Clemens a pro-rated $12 million, which, pro-rated, equals his salary of $18 million last year. Clemens, if he signs, more than likely wouldn't be able to pitch until June 1 anyway. Three other teams, the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rangers have all shown interest in acquiring the 43-year-old Clemens as well. Hopefully and likely he will want to return to his hometown of Houston, where he has spent his last 2 years. The...

Lidge Earns save, makes it interesting again
(By: MizzouAstro)

Brad Lidge, in his first appearance against the Cardinals since Pujols hit THE BOMB in Game 5 of the NLCS. Lidge gave up a deep double before retiring Pujols in a flyout to deep center. He then gave up another hit to Edmonds making the game 5-4. He then hit a batter and finally struck out one batter and got the final out on a ground out to first base. Lidge gained his 9th save in 11 tries this year. He has consistantly gotten saves, yet he has also consistently made every game interesting. Hopefully he will be able to bear down and actually get a 1-2-3 save for once.

Oswalt only gave up 4 hits, 3 of them were solo...

Astros Split With Brewers
(By: MizzouAstro)

Fransisco Nieve earned his first Major League win for the Astros tonight as the 'Stros beat the Brewers 8-5. Ben Sheets was taken out of the game after 2.1 innings as he got rocked by the Astros, giving up 6 runs. Morgan Ensberg was given the day off, I think Garner was trying to help break him out of his recent slump by giving him the day off. Hopefully it will work. Berkman batted in his 31st RBI of the year as he continues on a tear. The Astros now have a 2 game series at home against the Cardinals. Hopefully we can do what we did to them in the NLCS in our first meeting of the season.

Astros Avoid Sweep, Astros Players to pick up if possible
(By: MizzouAstro)

Astros avoid the sweep by the Cincinatti Reds on Sunday by winning 3-2. Berkman continued his frenetic pace by homering in the 1st. Brad Lidge ended his 2 game blowed save streak by recording his 8th save of the year. He is now 8-10 on save attempts and hopefully he will not blow another one for a while. The Astros are now .5 games behind the Reds and the Cardinals for the Central Division lead. They play the 3rd place Brewers and then the Cardinals in back to back two game series before travelling to Colorado. The Central Division is looking to be the most competitive division in the NL this year with 4 of the 5 teams over .500 to...

'Stros take down Dodgers
(By: MizzouAstro)

Astros took down the Dodgers tonight to take the series. Wandy Rodriguez out of nowhere is 4-0, so he might be someone to get cheap if you need another pitcher. Berkman was 3-4 with a homer and 3 rbi. Ensberg is in a big slump after being on fire. He was 0-12 on the series. Thats hurting me right now.

Speaking of hurting me, I'm an idiot for not playing Kevin Mench this week in my league. I stuck him on the bench for Carl Crawford, who is doing absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, Mench has homered in his last 6 games including a grandy today against the A's. I'm kicking myself now. Hopefully he'll keep it up so I can play him next...

Astros Win in 14th
(By: MizzouAstro)

The Astros finally finished off the Dodgers in a marathon 14 inning game that took just short of 5 hours to wrap up. Brad Lidge blew is second straight save by giving up a sacrifice fly by Jeff Kent in the top of the ninth. Neither team scored at all for the next 4 innings until the Astros finally broke through in bottom of the 14th.

Preston Williams, who has been in a terrible slump to begin the year, finally broke through with 2 hits and the game winning sacrifice fly in the 14th to score Willy Tavares. After striking out 11 out of 12 at bats a week ago, Williams, while making some great defensive plays all along, finally had a...

Lidge Blows Save, Pettite Gem
(By: MizzouAstro)

The Astros wasted another pitching gem by Andy Pettite tonight as they lost to the Dodgers 6-2. Pettite only gave up 1 run on 2 hits through 7 innings. Lidge came in to attempt to gain his 8th save in 8 attempts after Lance Berkman homered in the 8th to put the 'stros up 2-1. After getting one out, Lidge allowed a triple by Kenny Lofton, walked 2 batters, and then gave up a grand slam to Nomar.

Pettite got the no decision, keeping his record at 1-3, though he has pitched very well his last 3 starts. Hopefully the Astros can rebound tomorrow and tally up more than a measely 2 runs against the Dodgers.

Roy O, Ensberg=amazing
(By: MizzouAstro)

Roy Oswalt improved to 4-0 today as the Astros finished off a sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates 7-2 to improve to 13-5 on the year. Roy O has won his last 7 games and hasn't lost since last September.

Morgan Ensberg continued a career best 10 game hitting streak when he put on over the centerfield wall in the 1st inning. The homer was his 7th in 8 games, as he continues to bat over .400 to start the year.

Buchholz Pitches Gem In First Career Win
(By: MizzouAstro)

Taylor Buchholz, in his 2nd career start, pitched 8 2/3 innings giving up only 2 hits and no runs. The rookie pitcher for the Astros tallied his first career win against the Pirates this evening by pitching a gem. He only gave up 1 hit through the first 8 2/3 innings. The Astros won 3-0, with Craig Biggio scoring all three runs, one by a single from Morgan Ensberg, who's homerun streak was ended at 6, one on a sac fly by Berkman, and his final run on a solo homer in the 7th.

Buchholz was 1 strike away from a complete game 1 hitter when Eric Bruntlett, the Astros 2nd baseman who subbed in for Biggio in the...

Ensberg Homers Again, Astros Still Hot
(By: MizzouAstro)

Morgan Ensberg homered for the 6th consecutive game last night in a 3-2 victory of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Ensberg continued his torrid start along with the Astros as they improve to a Central Division leading 11-5. Brad Lidge picked up his 6th save in 6 attempts to help improve Wandy Rodriguez to 3-0 on the year.

I joined a late fantasy league which had its draft last week. I knew that Ensberg had started hot, so I decided to show my man some love and nabbed him with my second pick (my first was Big Papi). Needless to say, I'm lovin him not only for racking up the points, but for helping the 'stros to one of their best starts in...
