As was mentioned in the podcast, I'm looking for user opinion. I can keep Derrek Lee for $17 next year.

He was so good the first half, but as Gregg noted, he had a credible drop off in that second half. Do I concentrate on those first half numbers and keep him, or do I look elsewhere, and possibly get Lee for less money?

I don't know enough about money leagues, like that one your in to offer an opinion. Iassume that is a 5x5 league. I don't even really know what that means exactly. All I know is BBM, which I know has to be completely different. I will say that Derek Lee I believe has turned the corner & has developed into a very solid player. I still believe he will be one of the top 10 first baseman this upcoming season numbers wise. Top 5 would be a stretch perhaps. I don't know if that equals a $17 value in that league your in or not.

D-Lee won't put up the same astronomical numbers he had in '05, but I think he'll be good for a .280 avg., 30 homers, and 90 RBI's at least. I can imagine that Albert Pujols will go for at least double the $17 in the money leagues, so you'll most likely be keeping Lee for a bargain.

Hi Doc:

Basically, in our money league we have a salary cap (hey, I bet you like that) of $260 with which to "buy" 22 players (8 pitchers and 14 position players).

5x5 means 5 hitting categories and 5 pitching categories. In our case, we use HR, RBI, OBP, AVG, SB, ERA, WHIP, K/9, SAVES, WINS.

For perspective, I paid $45 for Vlad Guerrero last year. $22 for Eric Chavez. At $12 (last year), Derrek Lee was a bargain. We get to keep four players (up to) the next year, but you add $5 to their salary.

In the end, I think Derrek Lee is worth $17. He could make or break me, though, if he comes WAY back down to earth in 2006.

Sounds pretty cool Rob! Maybe one year I'll get in one of those type leagues. I'll stick to BBM for now. BBM & 5x5 both have a salary cap of some kind which is cool. Now only if MLB will get one!
