Blue Jays' Rios hospitalized with leg infection

TORONTO -- Blue Jays right fielder Alex Rios was
hospitalized Thursday and expected to remain overnight to receive
treatment on a bad infection in his lower left leg.

Rios fouled a ball off his leg during Tuesday's 6-0 victory over
the Washington Nationals. He sat out Wednesday's game as a
precaution, but the pain in his leg got worse Thursday, so the team
sent him to the hospital.

Toronto trainer George Poulis said Rios is receiving strong
antibiotics to keep the infection from spreading. There is no
timetable for his return.

The 25-year-old Rios is having a breakout season, batting .330
with 15 homers and 53 RBI. He also has 20 doubles, nine stolen
bases and a .383 on-base percentage. He has not committed an error.
