KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) -- Derek Lowe pitched three scoreless
innings in his Los Angeles debut, but the Atlanta Braves rallied to
beat the Dodgers 3-2 when first baseman Brian Myrow made two errors
in the ninth Friday.

Lowe, whose last appearance was in Boston's World
Series-clinching victory, was glad to get his first start with the
Dodgers out of the way. He was very effective, facing the minimum
in his three-inning stint.

Facing the Braves' potential opening-day lineup, Lowe gave up
only a single to Andruw Jones, who was erased when Brian Jordan hit
into a double play.

"When you're with a new organization, you've only got one
chance to make a first impression," said Lowe, who signed a $36
million, four-year contract with the Dodgers. "This organization
has taken me in and made me feel very, very comfortable about
joining this staff."

Of course, Lowe still gets asked about his final year with the
Red Sox. He won the final game in all three postseason series,
including the victory over the St. Louis Cardinals that clinched
Boston's first World Series victory since 1918.

"It was a tremendous run, a great group of guys and the city
really enjoyed what that team did," Lowe said. "But you've got to
get over it."

Trailing 2-1 going to their final at-bat Friday, the Braves
scored twice with only one hit.

Kelly Johnson reached when Myrow botched a grounder, then Jeff
Francoeur singled to left. After Ryan Langerhans lined out, Scott
Thorman walked to load the bases.

It appeared that Aquilino Lopez (0-1) might escape the jam when
slow-running Brayan Pena hit a potential double-play grounder to
Myrow. But, after he fielded the ball cleanly, his throw ricocheted
off Thorman's back and rolled into left field, allowing the tying
and winning runs to score.

Dodgers outfielder J.D. Drew got a chance to face his former
team, having left the Braves as a free agent after having the best
year of his career in 2004. Booed lustily in his two at-bats by the
pro-Atlanta crowd, he struck out both times.

John Thomson, showing no signs of a pulled side muscle he had
heading into the playoffs last season, pitched two scoreless
innings for the Braves.

"Lowe was all ground balls, which is just what you'd expect,"
Braves manager Bobby Cox said. "And Thomson was free and easy, his
normal self."

The Dodgers broke a 1-1 tie in the top of the ninth when Tydus
Meadows homered off Hector Almonte (1-0).

Game notes
Dodgers OF Jayson Werth, who was hit by a pitch Wednesday,
will miss two weeks with a small fracture in his left arm. Werth's
arm does not require a cast or a splint and he will be able to
continue his running programs and throw. He will not be able to
catch a ball or swing a bat for 10-14 days.
