Comments on: Raw stats vs. prorated stats searches now available!
by: Rob Reed | January 9, 2009, 11:08pm

A complaint that I have received about these rankings is that, for offensive players, the rankings are all prorated. So, if the "at bats" field is limited enough, you get some strange results (e.g., for 2008, Nelson Cruz appears as the #3 player in all of baseball, using the prorated stat function, and a minimum of 0 ABs).

So, for the naysayers, I have added an option to view how every player stacks up against each other solely using RAW stats.

An interesting thing happens now, though, Under the RAW stats, David Wright was the #1 player in all of fantasy baseball in 2008 and not Alex Rodriguez. Something to keep in mind. This was a fun surprise for me, so I like the new function.

Personally, I will be using the RAW stat function to see a "realistic" ranking, and I will use the PRORATED version to search for sleepers. The PRORATED ranking will be the default, but you can change it in the rankings options.

Here is why the PRORATED function is valuable -- compare the RAW rankings of these players with the PRORATED version:

RAWPRORATED
Elijah Dukes15050
Chris Davis16239
Ryan Spilborghs16747
Rafael Furcal19428
Nelson Cruz2213
Ryan Shealy30229
Cody Ransom35026

Big differences which, if I went pure RAW, would make it much more difficult to find some potential breakouts.

Try out the new system here, where you can view all top ten results without a subscription.

What do you think about evaluating players on a prorated basis? Is it completely useless?
