N.L. West Champ- Dodgers... Don't laugh! I have more confidence in this years team than last year and they won 93 games. If you'll refer to my post last spring on this subject, I predicted at least 85 wins for the '04 Blue Crew and I took a lot of heat for it. Watch guys like Jayson Werth and Hee-Seop Choi become household names.

N.L. East Champ- Phillies... The Braves won't be able to compete with their offense, plus they have Billy Wagner to give them that extra lift down the stretch.

N.L. Central Champ- Cardinals... They have the best offense and the addition of Mark Mulder will help an already respectable pitching staff.

N.L. Wild Card- Padres... Brian Giles should have a monster comeback season, but Trevor Hoffman's best days are behind him, so I don't expect the Pads to finish ahead of Gagne and the Dodgers at the end of the season.

A.L. West Champ- Angels... No other team in their division can compete with their offense, pitching, and coaching.

A.L. East Champ- Yankees... As long as 'Ol Georgie is in charge, there will never be a salary cap in baseball.

A.L. Central Champ- Twins... Best overall team on paper in their division with their improved offense. Justin Morneau should be the first Twin since Harmon Killebrew to hit 40 homers in a season. Plus, they have a rock-solid pitching staff from top to bottom with Johan Santana leading the way.

A.L. Wild Card- Red Sox... Their solid offense should take them into the postseason, but the loss of Pedro will show in October.

N.L. Champion- Cardinals
A.L. Champion- Yankees

World Series Champion- Cardinals

N.L. Rookie of The Year- Not sure on this one yet. If Jason Phillips screws up in April, expect Dioner "Little Pudgito" Navarro to be a contender.
A.L. Rookie of The Year- Dallas McPherson.. I've watched him this spring and I believe he'll make halo fans--true ones and bandwagon jumpers--forget all about Troy Glaus by the end of the season.

Well, those are my projections for this year. What are yours?

My (crummy) predictions:

NL West - Dodgers. I'm not laughing at your pick. Without Bonds, I think the Giants are a mediocre team. The Padres have some talent, but I think they are still a year or two away. I can't see Hee-Seop Choi becoming a household name; he has the power, but I don't think he'll ever become a good enough hitter to harness it.

NL Central - Cardinal. No-brainer there. Best lineup in baseball?

NL East - Braves. The last few years I've thought some other team would win the East. So far, Atlanta has proven me wrong. Look for a big season from Tim Hudson.

NL Wildcard - Cubs. I have to. They're my team. Of course, a wild card spot is dependant on whether their pitching stays healthy (and with Dusty managing, that's a big question mark). Plus, management will need to pick up another bat by midseason, and possibly a closer (the thought of LeTroy Hawkins closing scares me).

AL West - Anaheim. The lineup is stacked, and the pitching is good. Seattle will score some runs, but give up more. Oakland's new big three will do a good job, but fall short again.

AL Central - Twins. There isn't another team in that division that can challenge them, not even the improving Tigers.

AL East - Yankees. Randy Johnson will have another Cy Young season. Imagine what his record would've been the last few years if Arizona had given him better run support. He'll get it in the Bronx.

AL Wildcard - Red Sox. They'll come up a couple games short of the AL East title again.

AL Champion - Red Sox.
NL Champion - Cubs (If they stay healthy.)

World Series Champion - Cubs. Cubs fans are either eternal optimists or hardcore masochists.

NL Cy Young - Mark Mulder. It's a lot easier to win 20 games with Edmonds, Walker, and Pujols in your lineup.

AL Cy Young - Randy Johnson

I love your eternal optimism for your Cubbies, Desert Chill. I try to root for my Dodgers in good times and bad, though it was tough when they were owned by the Fox crew. Realistically, I don't see the Cubs going all the way this year without Sammy. But, if Wood and Prior get healthy again and Nomar has a banner year, anything can happen.

As for the Cy Young winners, I see Tim Hudson winning it for the N.L. and Johan Santana doing the same in the A.L. I also see Albert Pujols and A-Rod getting the nods for MVP.

Surprised so many people have the Cardinals winning it all. Of course that's what I'd like, but I also like being the underdog.

For what it's worth:

AL

East
Yankees
Boston (WC)

Central
Twins

West
Mariners (my Cinderella)

NL

East
Braves
Phillies (WC)

Central
Cardinals

West
Dodgers

Yankee Cardinal WS
Cardinals win to improve on their dominance over the Yankees in the WS

okay before i go anywhere...the cubs are royally screwed. they dont have sosa and alou to lean on anymore, and now they are without nomah and todd walker. now to the predictions...

AL

East: Yankees-they line-up strikes a LITTLE fear into pitchers, plus randy, wright, and pavano help balance out the old rotation

Central: Twinkies-i dont really know that much about them, except they win. pure and simple. plus they have a johan santana. thats pretty good by itself

West: Angels-who could vote against them? they have an outfield for the ages with Finley, Guerro or w/e, and Garret Anderson. and their rotation is capable of keeping them in a game.

WC:BO Sox-they have too good of a line-up to not make it. they losses of pedro and derek will be felt tho...

NL

East:Marlins-i dont see what others see from the braves...o and the addition of carlos delgado is a MAJOR for them. they now have another power bat to complement mike lowell and miguel cabrera. He'll drive in plenty of runs with pierre and castilla too. plus...isnt it time for the braves to actually LOSE a friggin' division title?

Central: Cardinals-is there really a opponent? the astros are rebuilding, and they cubs are injury prone. I would give them a lil' respect if they had prior and wood healthy together. Reds and cubs i think will compete for the WC.

West: dodgers-this was a toughy...i would give the giants the nod if they had a healthy barry, but now that hes out, they dont have a real scary line-up. dodgers had three big signings with lowe, kent, and drew. thats a good group of talent. plus u always have a chance with gagne as your closer.

WC: Braves-i may not have that much faith in them for the divison title, but theyre good enough for the WC defenatly. if not them, which would be a major dissapointment in Atlanta, it should be someone else from the East...dont doubt the 'Nats. Theyre in for the long haul.

ALCS-Yankees and Angels (they'll be looking for blood after last divisional series...)

NLCS-Cards and Marlins

WS-Cards and Angels

WS CHAMPION: STL CARDINALS! mulder is the final piece to the world series puzzle for the cardinals, and will win it in a 6 game series.

AL MVP: A-Rod...now that he's settled into NY's offence and has a year under his belt, A-Rod is gonnna' burst out with a career year. Last year wasn't even THAT bad...
NL MVP: Albert Pujols...only logical choice now that barry is sidelined. Hes averaged 41 HR and 129 rbi's each year, and now he has a great lead-off man in david eckstein, and larry walker is sure to get on at a good clip.

AL CY YOUNG: Randy Johnson...one word, dominace. he won 16 game for the hopeless Diamondbacks, when he could've won at least 21 or more. The NY line-up is more than capable to give him games even if hes not on his.
NL CY YOUNG: Mark Mulder...how couldn't he win it. hes the best cardinals pitcher in years, and he has the best line-up in the NL and agruably the whole league. look for a win total around 23...

Most of my predictions have been looking good so far, but there's been a few surprises. I didn't expect the Angels and the Phillies to have such a lackluster start, but I still think they're the best teams in their divisions in the long run. Back when I started this post on 3/25, I had no idea who Brian Roberts was. He hit only 4 homers last year in 600-at-bats and he already has 8 in under 100. Has Roberts been tested for steroids yet?

Well, it looks like there were no predictions of a ChiSox vs. Astros World Series. If anybody did before the season started, then they would've been committed to some insane asylum. This was quite an unusual year with another eight-decade curse coming to an end. If there's anybody out there who made all the correct predictions this season, then I'd like to see your proof. As former Dodger radio guy, Jeff Witcher would say, "Show me your facts!".

As for my picks, the Cardinals, Angels, and Yankees were no-brainers and were the easiest ones to choose for their divisions. Though, I didn't expect the Cards and Yanks to screw up in the playoffs. I thought the ChiSox looked good, but I didn't think they would overpower the Twins down the stretch. Besides the long curse, the White Sox hadn't won their division since '59.

As for the Dodgers, what can I say? I didn't expect all those injuries and a few bonehead moves by Paul DePodesta. A healthy Gagne alone would've won the N.L. West for the Blue Crew.
