Hafner could earn up to $11.5 million over four years

CLEVELAND -- Travis Hafner signed a $7 million, three-year
contract with the Indians on Wednesday, the second Cleveland player
given a longterm deal since the start of the season.

Hafner, whose agreement could be worth $11.5 million over four
seasons, hit .311 last year with 28 homers and 109 RBI as the
team's designated hitter.

He gets $500,000 this season, $2.5 million next year and $3.75
million in 2007. Cleveland has a $4.75 million option for 2008 with
a $250,000 buyout.

Cleveland signed catcher Victor Martinez to a $15.5 million,
five-year contract last week, a deal that could be worth up $22.25
million over six seasons. Martinez hit .283 with 23 homers and 108
RBI last season and was picked for the AL All-Star team.

Hafner originally agreed to a one-year contract that called for
a salary at an annual rate of $377,400 while in the major leagues
and $253,100 while in the minors.
