Bob Matthews, of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle, presents a strong case that he did www.democratandchronicle.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060221/SPORTS0101/602210326/-1/COLUMNS Giants [Other] 1271 2214 0 Take a look at these stats by Ba-Bo--- 1995-1999 (Age 30-34, when most players are in their prime)-- 719 games; .294 BA; 186 HR's; 539 RBI's; no MVP awards...... These are great stats of a future Hall of Famer, but look at how he does when he's past his "prime"..... 2000-2004 (Age 35-39, when most players are on the decline, at least the ones not on the juice) 716 games; .339 BA; 258 HR's; 554 RBI's; 4 MVP awards.... Compare these stats to Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, and Willie Mays when they were past their prime and you'll notice a remarkable difference. This will definitely be taken into consideration by the Hall of Fame voters. But, unfortunately, they also have to take into account that Bonds played during the Steroid Era. It's going to be a tough call. The first big test will be next year, which is Mark McGwire's first year of eligibility.
