After So. Korea defeated Japan the other day, anything is possible. Though, it's hard to believe that the Americans lost to a bunch of Canadians made up mostly of minor leaguers. The U.S. must defeat South Africa or Mexico must lose another game for them to stay alive. Until recently, I didn't know that baseball was even a sport in South Africa. Isn't Cricket their national pastime?
The U.S. team better wake and take this event seriously. everytime anyone plays the Americans they bring their "A Game". If they don't make it past this round, it would drive Selig nuts. I hope they aren't like the U.S. Hoops Squad that got 3rd, not taking the other countries seriously. The difference in regards to baseball is that we already know the rest of the world can play. If they do not make it, maybe it will inspire bigger stars to step up for their country despite what their owners want. Even international stars will tune in to watch our stars. How good would that be for baseball?

Just one reason to root against the USA team.
I've surprised myself at how into these games I'm getting. I'm cheering for the USA squad, but I find that I'm cheering MORE for the players from the Red Sox. It's a weird situation to be in.
And so far, with the exception of Lenny Dinardo, the Red Sox players have done me proud.

That's not really fair of me...Lenny didn't do all that badly, he just hasn't done as well as the other guys.
Remember that two of the top prospects in baseball are on the Canadian team (not that this should have resulted in a US loss, though): Jason Bay and Justin Morneau.
The Canadian second baseman also has one of the coolest names in baseball: Stubby Clapp.
Sounds like a veneral disease, admittedly.... but still cool!
Its sad, because I am sure we all seen this coming during the game with Mexico when Johnny Damon walked in his triple. I know this is pre-season, but when you strap on the colors of your country take some pride and play balls out (so to speak). This is Our game for f'sake!!!
"redsoxchick" I feel ya on rooting for your own team players. I encounter that every year playing fantasy Baseball....bye the way Reedster I am pointing to the right field seats and calling my shot...."I will win our fantasy league"..lol I think I just jinxed myself...
