Chad Gaudin, a Rays reliever used often by manager Lou Piniella, is developing a reputation for throwing a hard and effective slider. The likes of Randy Johnson and John Smoltz have praised it, Smoltz even calling it "a gift". With Piniella possibly contemplating a move to the rotation (if the Rays starters fail to shape up), Gaudin could be shooting for A.L. Rookie of the Year. With 40 innings pitched last year, he remains eligible for the award this year.

It's nice to see this kid get some due. He is on one of my fantasy teams (www.baseballmanager.com)... the funny thing is that until this ESPN article came out, he was a sillouette AND they hadn't updated his stats in his ESPN profile.Obviously, that slider has gotten him some notice.
