This is quite a revelation for me. It looks like Abner Doubleday didn't invent baseball after all. The modern game not only began in the U.K., but it was also most popular in the S.W. England/S.E. Wales area where some of my roots come from. No wonder I love the game so much.

I found another link saying that an earlier version of baseball called Lapta took place in 14th Century Russia, another place of my roots. http://www.19cbaseball.com/
