The mighty Tigers offense jumped all over last years NL Cy Young winner and then took advantage of the Cardinals bullpen in route to a 10-6 victory over Albert Pujols, err…the St. Louis Cardinals. All Pujols’ did in his second game since coming off the DL is go 4-4 and hit his 26th home run. In fairness to the Cardinals Scott Rolen is a darn good hitter too. Justin Verlander struggled, but out-dueled Carpenter to earn his ninth victory on the year. He pitched six innings with seven hits and four runs while walking three and striking out five. Fernando Rodney allowed a run pitching the seventh and eighth innings for his eighth hold. Todd Jones gave up the home run to Pujols to end the scoring in the ninth.

Curtis Granderson led off the first inning for the Tigers with a home run. Brandon Inge followed with a two-run shot in the second inning his sixteenth of the season. The power numbers he is putting up this year continue to surprise me. After the Cards came back to tie the game Detroit scored four in the fifth to break the game open. Granderson continued his torrid hitting pace doubling in Monroe. He came around to score on a single by Polanco. After a Vance Wilson double Maggs picked up two more RBI with a single. For good measure the Tigers added three runs in the bottom of the eighth playing small ball to extend the lead enough that even Todd Jones couldn’t make things interesting. The Tigers look for victory number 50 in their first 75 games with Kenny Rogers taking the hill on Saturday night in Detroit.

*** OEs 3 Stars of the Game ***
