The Tigers got the offensive explosion they needed to avoid a sweep at the hands of the Oakland As. Detroit scored early and often putting up 10 runs between the second and sixth innings. Chris Shelton began the fun in the second inning with a two run single. Detroit scored four in the third. Granderson and Pudge both doubled for a run and Guillen brought Rodriguez home for the second run. Craig Monroe hit his 12th home run of the year a two-run shot. Inge continued to show off the power with his 17th homer in the fourth. The Tigers added a run in the fifth after Oakland cut the deficit to 7-3 on an Alexis Gomez single. Two more runs scored in the sixth on a single by Polanco and a run scoring double play ground out by Guillen.

The run support was more than enough to get Kenny Rogers his eleventh victory before the All-Star break. He might have earned himself the All-Star game start depending on what Ozzie Guillen decides. Rogers gave up eights hits including two home runs accounting for all for Oakland runs. Roman Colon pitched very well over the final 3.1 innings only allowing two hits, but no runs with one strikeout. By working the final three innings Colon picked up the save. After an off day the Tigers will be in Seattle for a weekend series before the All-Star break begins.
