Catchers
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Sorry for the delay in the blog. Once again this week life and laziness got in the way of the important things. The goal is to complete positional analysis for the Tigers before the season starts. Today will focus on the catcher position.

Following the 119 loss season the Detroit team lacked any sort of credibility and talent in the baseball realm. The franchised lacked personality and attracting free agents to the D was a challenge. Management was forced to overpay for talent, mostly aging talent. Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez is the epitome of this fact. Pudge is still a quality catcher, but is on the downhill side of a hall of fame career while getting...

Relief Pitchers
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Hello BGeeks,

It seems life and laziness has pushed back the unveiling of the Tiger’s Relief Pitching analysis. The goal is to wet the appetites to a frenzied state. Without further delay here it is.

When analyzing the bullpen it all starts at the back end with the closer. Last year the Tigers attempted to fill this void through free agency by signing an older closer that had previous success. That worked so well they decided to try the same thing again this year. No matter how much it defies logic I like the move this off-season to bring Todd Jones back into the fold. For one he does not have the history of arm troubles Percival...

Tribute to Ernie Harwell
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Today is the opening of the spring training schedule. As loyal Tiger’s fan know on the first game of the spring schedule Ernie would quote “The Song of Solomon.” It is not nearly the same typed in a blog, but it’s the thought that matters. This is in honor of one of the greatest broadcasters ever and a fixture in the childhood of all Tiger’s fans.

“For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.”

God Bless Ernie Harwell!

Hopes and Dreams
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Hello Baseball Geeks,

Thanks to all of you who provided feedback on the results of my first fantasy baseball draft. An update, based on information from podcast #7, Paul Lo Duca is subtracted from the team for the addition of Rod Barajas. The Ranger’s catcher ranked higher in the player track system and the power numbers are great for a #2 catcher in case Mauer suffers the injury bug again. Jacques Jones is also available as a free agent and I am considering picking him up and dropping either A. LaRoche or M. Jacobs. Thoughts? The reason I would do this is my team is deep at 1st base with M. Teixeira, C. Tracy, C. Shelton plus...

1st ever baseball draft results
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Hello Baseball Geeks,

I just completed my first ever fantasy baseball draft and here are the results. I look forward to feedback from fellow baseball geeks. I’ve played fantasy baseball in the past, but never had a live draft before. Let me give the parameters of the league so there is a context to the team. The OEDs had the fourth pick in a 10 team league with a serpentine draft. The scoring is weekly head-to-head based on 21 categories. The hitting categories are R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVG, OPS. For pitching the stats are W, L, CG, SHO, SV, BB, HLD, ERA, WHIP, K/9. So there are a lot...

Good Signs and Help Needed
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Good Friday Baseball Geeks,

I’m struggling to pull myself away from the intrigue that is Olympic ice dancing. A number of things coming from the Tigers camp stood out as quality signs for the upcoming year. The first is the excitement of Leyland in his first spring training in six years. It is great to hear how excited he is to get back to work. A thing he seems to bring to the table the Tigers have missed for some time is discipline. Trammell will always be my favorite Tiger and I do think he got a raw deal. However, I must admit that he lost control of the clubhouse after the All-Star break and the...

Tigers Prediction, AL Central Picks, Nerves and Fantasy Strategy
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Hello Again Baseball Geeks,

Thanks for the welcome Reedster. I am interested in the address you mentioned (tigers.baseballgeeks.com) for my blog. Also, thanks for the nickname of OE. I was slow and didn’t think of it myself, but I like it and will sign off that way from now on. Although may or may not change my logo to an OE 40 ounce. In terms of the system I am still attempting to figure all of the features out. I am having trouble changing the background graphic and the blog window graphic. Is there a size or color restriction? Can you post right to the blog or must you post on topics first and...

Hello Tiger's Fans!
(By: The Olde English Ds)

Hello Fellow Baseball Geeks and Tiger's Fanatics,

Well the day has finally arrived! Pitchers and catchers report to spring training today. Ahhh, spring training. Where hope springs eternal and every team can win the World Series, at least in the hearts of their fans. Although for Tiger's fans this usually signifies a short stretch before the team is all but eliminated from the playoff race. Then we return to looking forward to the draft, free agency and next year.

I am new to this whole blog universe and am excited to try it out. I have no clue how to use this technology yet. I recently joined the...
