My (crummy) predictions: NL West - Dodgers. I'm not laughing at your pick. Without Bonds, I think the Giants are a mediocre team. The Padres have some talent, but I think they are still a year or two away. I can't see Hee-Seop Choi becoming a household name; he has the power, but I don't think he'll ever become a good enough hitter to harness it. NL Central - Cardinal. No-brainer there. Best lineup in baseball? NL East - Braves. The last few years I've thought some other team would win the East. So far, Atlanta has proven me wrong. Look for a big season from Tim Hudson. NL Wildcard - Cubs. I have... Last comment by: Jaydawg @ 10/30/05, 12:10pm |

Re: The Braves' Schuerholz and Cox: the best GM-manager tandem in history? (By: Desert_Chill) |
And I'm thinking they'll make it 14 straight this year. No baseball team has ever run off a string of division-winning seasons like this. On the other hand, they probably wouldn't have won in 1994 (Expos had the best record in baseball before the strike), and in all that time they've only won one World Series. Cox is great about getting the most of his players during the season (and having a stellar pitching coach in Leo Mazzone doesn't hurt either), but when the postseason rolls around, he invariably gets outmanaged. Since 1992, the Blue Jays have won the World Series twice, the Florida Marlins twice, and the Yankees three times. The Braves have won it just once in those... Re: Ranking of the teams that had the best winter breaks (By: Desert_Chill) |
I'd have to agree with some of Mr. Jacobs' choices, and disagree with others. One thing I've learned is that you can't doubt the work that Mazzone does down in Atlanta. Tim Hudson should have an excellent year for them. Smoltz is a question mark, with his elbow and all, but I think Atlanta shouldn't have too many problems in the rotation. I could easily see them winning the NL East over an uncertain Philly team and an up-and-down Florida squad. The Cardinals are a truly scary team this year. A lineup with no easy outs from top to bottom and an improved rotation could mean another trip back to the World Series. Being as I am a... Last comment by: Desert_Chill @ 3/16/05, 11:00am |
