It would have been a mistake for Piazza to go to the Yankees in the first place. There was very little playing time available and he can still hit a hot bat once in a while. The latest rumors have Piazza going either to his hometown Phillies or the Padres. With Lieberthal's frequent injuries, Mike would have a lot to contribute to Philly and the Padres have the catcher spot ready to be filled, since Ramon Hernandez left for Baltimore. The Blue Jays, who offered Piazza 70 starts at the catcher position, are still a possibility as well. The Angels seem like a longshot at this point, since they're primarily focused on changing the team name back to Anaheim. Any one of those teams would be a good spot for the Pizza Man.

Turns out that the "Padres interested in Piazza" rumor turned out to be true. Don't expect him to receive much of an ovation when he visits Dodger Stadium, though. That's if he's in the lineup, which isn't a sure thing at this stage in his career.
