Angels owner Arte Moreno said in an interview with Times columnist T.J. Simers on 570 AM radio Sunday that he was close to an agreement with the cable network to provide exclusive coverage of Angels games. The deal reportedly could be worth as much as $500 million and would telecast about 150 games a season. It would also put to rest any idea of an Angels cable TV network for at least 10 years.

Presumably, it would also put to rest any idea that the Angels would move out of Socal in the next ten years.

Won't put to rest a Los Angeles move, however.

Think the Angels should have started their own network. The Yankees have generated 50 Million extra revenue a year by starting YES network. Why pay a middle man? Unless Fox is over-paying for the rights. Plus, an Angels network would make the franchise that much more valuable. The Mets are starting their own network this year, and are already spending like crazy, their payroll is way up. The Red Sox own most of their cable network, and they always spend just behind the Yankees.
