Unfortunately, with our other busy lives, we got about 20 minutes in (without having discussed PlayerTrack Top 10 catchers), and Gregg had to get his kids to a basketball team photo. We will get to the rest soon (hopefully have this week's podcast out by tomorrow night). If you would like to send us fantasy questions, or if you have comments on the following issues, send us an email at podcast[at]baseballgeeks[dot]com. I. Some predict that Amphetamines will be the key story of 2006, now that Baseball has taken control of the steroids issue (By: Jaydawg) |
A team staffer has estimated that 75% of players have used the banned substance, Amphetamines. If that's anywhere near true, then Selig better seize on this problem A.S.A.P. This is much more serious than the stratospheric salaries in the game. Since it's now difficult to get away with using the juice, players might resort to those little green pills. Mandatory testing for Amphetamines, as well as other illegal substances for that matter, is a must. |

Jurors rule in favor of Arte Moreno---- The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim are here to stay (By: Jaydawg) |
After four hours of deliberation, jurors in Santa Ana rejected Anaheim's claim in name change dispute. Legally, I can understand their ruling. After all, the lease with Moreno called for the team to have Anaheim in its name. As unusual as it sounds, the Los Angeles Angels of ANAHEIM fits the bill, doesn't it? Though, I like to refer to them as the L.A. Angels of Anaheim/Irvine/San Juan Capistrano, as Chris Berman does.
Actually, I understand both sides of this issue. Arte Moreno's intention is to bring more advertising revenue to the team and Angel fans in Anaheim and Orange County feel that the name change takes... Last comment by: Reedster @ 2/9/06, 9:29pm |

Halos about to lose yet another player (DaVanon) to the DBacks (By: Reedster) |
My brother became a huge Angel fan under the banner that the Dodger brass do nothing to make their team better, while Arte Moreno continues to do things to improve his team.
I gave my brother one last chance at coming back from the Dark Side to return to Dodger Fandom. He refused.
Hey, Chris. Door's closed. :)
Only thing Moreno has done in the past six months is piss off the city his team plays in. Wonderful public relations.
No wonder he has to advertise his team in L.A. as the "A" Team. |

Billboard advert for Red Sox features 20-year old who was killed by an alleged drunk driver two years ago (By: Reedster) |
Strange story. Red Sox had no clue. The billboard features the deceased knocking knuckles with Trot Nixon after a Nixon homerun.
Imagine being this kid's parents and catching your deceased son, featured on a Bosox billboard ad.
If this doesn't touch you emotionally, even the slightest, check to see that you have a pulse immediately.

San Francisco ballpark to get third name in four years (By: Reedster) |
I first went to "PacBell" park in 2002. What an amazing stadium. So amazing, in fact, that it continually is getting renamed.
It still is PacBell to me. It never was SBC Park... but now it is AT&T Park.
I hate corporate sponsorship. |

Re: Astros file insurance claim on Bagwell (By: Reedster) |
I'll play the Devil's advocate. $17 million is a heck of a lot to pay for Bagwell. On the other hand, nobody forced the Astros to sign Bags to the six-year contract extension before the 2001 season. We discussed this issue a few podcasts ago, and I thought it was provocative because our "false rumor" had the Astros brass requesting that Bagwell retire, so that they could collect. If the Astros forced Bagwell into this position, I felt that this would likely violate the insurance policy, making the insurance money unavailable. So, I think that our "false" rumor may have not been false, after all. The Astros just have to lie about it in order to collect. This is going to get ugly. Imagine if... We now have a photo of the prostitute Denny Neagle was caught with. She doesn't look like Willie McGee (she looks worse)... (By: Reedster) |
What "she" and Willie McGee have in common, however, would be a penis (just a guess). Last comment by: Jaydawg @ 1/30/06, 7:42pm |

Re: Podcast #3 is now up... (By: Reedster) |
>Great job once again guys! Rob, the prostitute looking like >Willie McGee comment was histerical. Not much more to add. You >2 just seem to improve a little bit each podcast. About the >second base discussion, I disagreed slightly with the second >base top 10, but I know your quoting that list from another >source. Graffanino #10?! How about Cantu or Belliard or >Polanco or even somebody like Durham? Graffanino is mid pack >at best. My theory regarding fantasy baseball success (roto, not simulated games like baseball manager) depends heavily on stat balance. You don't have to have the best players in a given position, but the players you do have should provide you with balance across the board of the statistics that your league counts. In addition to...
