With the loss of juiced up Palmeiro and the disappoint of Sammy Sosa, they are looking in the right place for some needed pop.

Sure, Burnitz has some pop, but he's not the kind of player you can depend on to carry a team. Since he started with the Mets, I've always thought of him as overrated. He's never hit for a high average and doesn't seem to come through much when the game is on the line. However, Jeromy could be an asset to an A.L. club as a D.H. with some established stars in their prime. Baltimore could be the right team for him as long as Tejada stays.

As of 9 p.m. EST, the Orioles have reportedly signed Jeromy Burnitz for a two-year $15 million deal. The birds are also said to be keeping Tejada for the time being. This should turn out well for Baltimore, especially if Burnitz starts playing a little more like Sosa and less like Rob Deer.

As of today, it appears that the Pittsburgh Pirates are zeroing in on Burnitz. It looks like Tejada isn't comfortable with the prospect of playing with a Rob Deer-like player. The best move for Baltimore right now is to sign a power-hitter in his prime. This would make Tejada more enthusiastic about staying with the O's.

That leaves Manny Ramirez... but then that means that Tejada won't be with the team any more. Oh, how I am glad I am not the O's GM right now.
