Julian Tavarez is psychotic...doesn't mean the Sox are cocky.

What I really love, though, is how this is being blown up so big...this happens with any other team aside from the Red Sox and it's a small blurb. The way folks are writing it up, you'd think Tavarez was killing fans between innings.

Now you have me laughing, Cyn! When did the Red Sox become everyone's baseball scapegoat, replacing the Yanks? The easy answer: NEVER. Even with a World Series win.

If, within a three day period during PRESEASON, any team got into TWO brawls, you would hear about it -- even if it was the Devil Rays.

It is one thing if it happened versus one team (i.e., bad blood generated between the same two teams)... but these were two different teams.

If I were a diehard Sox fan, I would be worried about the focus of this team. If I was from Boston (and a fan of the Bruins, also, presumably, I probably would be eating all of this up in a good way).

Either way, time will tell what kind of team Boston is, as we progress. I suspect that they are pretty darn good, notwithstanding the lack of focus.

Now THAT'S funny. Ever SINCE the 2004 season, they've been the media's whipping boys.

There was no brawl on Sunday...two guys jawing at each other and the benches milling around on the field is not a brawl. But your thinking there was a brawl kind of speaks to my first point.

Again, Tavarez is a nutjob...has nothing to do with the 'focus' of the team. What makes you think there's a lack of focus? In the two games where there was some kind of 'incident', the Red Sox won both of them.

I'm not worried at all.

Although, I'd be happier if that freakshow Tavarez wasn't on our team.

I like how the article mentions the history of tensions and altercations between the Red Sox and Devil Rays the last few seasons. My favorite part is Gathright calling out Tavarez...
"I was shocked. It was kind of funny, but it happens. I guess he was upset because he was getting hit a little bit, but whatever the reason was, it wasn't called for." Are the idoits back?

Wait, this quote from Gathright is even better as he is talking about the elbow from Tavarez..."Yeah, it just kind of glazed," Gathright said. "He hits like a woman." Gathright is quickly becoming a favorite of mine.

That's part of what bugs me. This has nothing to do with the history of the Rays and the Sox (although, admittedly, it's a colorful and interesting one!)...and EVERYTHING to do with the fact that Julian Tavarez is totally batshit.

No, the 'idiots' aren't back...but we certainly have ONE on the team.

I'm on Team Gathright!! I hate the Red Sox!!!I am so glad they are getting a bad wrap. They are just as evil as the Yankees but get less flack for it. I give them this though. They are entertaining. Theo to a prom then ditching the poor girl. A guy named "Coco". Spring training brawls. It is time to behave boys...time to drink a bottle of "Act-Right".

I like Gathright also. I think the D'Rays would be making a huge mistake keeping him out of the line up. The guy can flat out fly! He is a decent hitter, but he doesn't have to be great with his speed. He'll hit some doubles & triples, but he'll also beat out a lot of groundballs & he'll bunt for some hits. He'll also save you a run a game playing centerfield because of his speed & the room he can cover out there. If he is a full time starter, he'll steal 50 to 60 bases this season easily.
