The Mets won a 14 inning marathon game Friday night 8-7. The Mets twice came back from behind, first in the 7th, behind 6-2 scoring 4 runs to tie it and again in the 11th, were Billy Wagner again could not hold a team at bay, and gave up a pinch hit solo shot to Wilson Betemit, but in the bottom half with Chris Reisma on for the save, Cliff Floyd hit a second deck bomb to again tie it. The Mets were issued 13 walks, but yet only one of those scored, Carlos Beltran in the bottom of the 14th. Steve Trachsel again had control issues, and Chad Bradford was ruffed up in relief also. Jose Reyes was going for... |
Rookie pitcher Mike O'Conner making just his 2nd big league start, two hit the Amazins through 7 and got his first major league win under his belt, 6-2. Alfonzo Soriano hit a 2 run homer and that combined with the rbi double by Marlon Anderson in the 1st was enogh over the Mets on a damp Tuesday night game in Flushing. John Maine was not impressive in his start, giving up 4 earned walking 2 and striking out 6 over 5 and a third. Beltran hit a homer for really the only offense from the Mets. |
The Mets completed their 3 game series with the Braves Sunday with a loss, 8-5 as Jeff Francoeur had a big day going 4 for 5 with 5 RBI's. Steve Trachsel just didn't have it today, and was everywhere with his command. Beltran played again today and had to turn the wheels on a couple of times today and looked good doing so, as he also looked good on his 2 run homer swing. The Mets end April with a 6 game lead in the division, which is 1 game better than what the '86 team had at the end of April. Like I said earlier Vicor more than likely be sent back down Tuesday. in time to recall John Maine for the... |
David Wright hit 2 homers and had 3RBI's, and Pedro shut the Braves down for 7 innings, a Chipper Jones 2 run homer his only blemish, as the Mets beat the Braves 5-2. Pedro struck out 5 and allowed 4 hits. The offense churned out 11 hits, led by Reyes, Lo Duca, Wright and Kaz who all had 2 each. Duaner Sanchez pitched the 8th and Wagner the 9th for the save and Pedro's 5th win to start him 5-0 for the season. Smoltz took the L, striking out 10 while allowing 3 earned and 8 hits. Chris Reitsma came on in the 9th and gave up a bunt single Reyes, who stole 2nd, was sacraficed to 3rd, and brought home by a... |
???????I'm lost, the Mets placed Bannister on the DL today and added Victor Diaz. Yesterday the Mets said his hammy strian was mild, level 1 strain, now they put him on the DL? Maybe Beltran checked out ok today, we'll see in about 2 hours and 20 minutes. Any case, Bannister will miss his next 2 starts, so more than likely Victor will be sent back down early next week. The results from Brian Bannister's MRI cam back with good news for the Mets. He was listed with a catagory 1 strain, which is the least severe, and he now won't have to go on the DL. It looks like Darren Oliver will fill in Bannisers next schedule start, and then their hoping he's ready to go after that. Beltran will be evaluated tonight at Atlanta before the game, and determine his fate. If he's a go he'll obviousley play, but the word is he'll be DL bound retro to April 21st. Just a note Victor Diaz is on his way to Atlanta Friday morning, which to me tells what the Mets are thinking about Beltran. On a get away day game against the Gianst we saw Bannister be helped off the field trying to score from second on a Kaz single, Billy Wagner blow a 3 run lead in the bottom of the ninth, and the Mets squeek out a 11 inning win. Bannister was gutsy today, 2 doubles and he pitched decent giving up 3 earned over 5 innings while only walking 2, which had been a problem. But none the less, he looks DL bound for sure, which either leaves the Mets with calling up Jeremi Gonzalez, John Maine, or even better......Hold your hats Mets fans LIMA TIME!!!!! Wow, is all I can say, Wow. Bonds splashed a 2-1 pitched into the cove to... |
Steve Trachsel pitched great last night, limiting the Giants to 3 hits and 1 run over 6 innings. Wright and Kaz both chipped in with 2 hits a piece and Xavier hit his 6th home run to make Mets fans say "Cameron Who???". Cliff Floyd also became just the 12th visitor to deposit a ball into McCovey Cove. Next Up Matt Morris, who bumped Jason Schmidt back to Friday, against Brian Bannister today at 4:05pm. Due to Morris's ejection Sunday just 2/3'rds of an inning into his start, he can come back today which gave Jason Schmidt 2 extra days of rest. What's that tell you about Schmidt and the Giants confidence in him, you think for a second they would bump... |
Moises Alou set the tone in the 1st inning with a 3 run shot off Tom Glavine, that followed a 007 Bonds walk. Glavine was going to pitch to Bonds in the 1st, but was squeezed on a 2-0 pitch, and then walked Bonds rather then play around at 3-0. Alou then followed with a blast to left field to make the game 3-0, and the Mets offense never got on track, as that proved to be enough in a 6-2 win for el gigantes. Glavine pitched into the 7th, giving up all 6 runs. David Wright continued his slide, going 0-4, and the Mets lone runs came in the 6th on consecutive singles by Kaz, Reyes and Lo Duca. Beltran was... |
Victor Zambrano pitched awefull again and basically showed his confidence of his own stuff, by throwing 5 straight off speed pitches in a crucial situation in the 4th. With bases loaded he threw Brian Giles 5 straight off speed offerings before sucumbing to a full count fast ball which was deposited in the stands. The offense tried to mount a comback in the 6th, but with bases loaded and trailing 5-4, Kaz struck out. I've said this over and over again, Zambrano is terrible, I would love for the Mets to just cut him, do something, move Heilman back to the rotation, call up Royce Ring or Heath Bell, just pitty us fans from seeing this mess take the hill. Jorge Julio... |
