Re: Sheffield listed as day to day (By: Reedster) |
>I feel you. My ESPN league team is going down without Lee or >Sheff. I have both. Not that he is the same level player, but >I also had Kinsler from Texas. I cannot catch a break this >season with that team!!! I also have C.C. Sabathia (who is fortunately back, but I lost him for a month nearly in his first 3 innings of work), and Brian Roberts. As an example of how hard it is to keep up with fantasy baseball, as everyone here knows, I update this site AND I do a weekly podcast AND I have four fantasy teams. An office mate told me this morning that Roberts was hurt... I didn't even notice. Which leads me to a conclusion: I have now... Last comment by: Reedster @ 5/2/06, 5:11pm |

Confessions of an Atlanta Braves hater (By: RJ Warner) |
Who's sick of the Atlanta Braves? If I asked ten people, I bet nine would raise their hands. I was always sick of them. More than any Mets fan, Phillies fan or any NL East wanna be du-jour. They have been clogging up baseball's postseason since 1991, with only one championship to show for, in the post-strike 1995 season, when about three people cared outside of Cleveland and Atlanta. I hated them. More than any professional franchise in sports. More than the Yankees, the Cleveland Browns or Philadelphia Flyers.
Flash back: October 14th, 1992, Game 7, NLCS It was a beautiful fall day in Pittsburgh, the last traces of Indian Summer still hanging on. The gloaming in the city had a special buzz this... Last comment by: RJ Warner @ 5/5/06, 11:58am |

Re: MLB will not celebrate Bonds passing Ruth (By: Reedster) |
I haven't decided for sure, yet, how I feel on this issue, but I'm sure we will discuss it on the podcast tomorrow. My instict is to say that this is bad form on the part of Selig... Two competing thoughts come to my mind. One, there is the "race card" argument to be made... that a recognition of Ruth is, somehow, a chide on Aaron because we make a big deal about Barry passing the beloved (and white) Babe Ruth. Second, there is the simple argument that we didn't make a huge deal with, say, Roger Maris when Barry passed 61 on his way to 73. Still, the 700 mark and 714 is a very big number in baseball history, much like Lou Gehrig's games... Last comment by: Reedster @ 4/28/06, 11:40pm |

Okay, I finally sat down with my Tivo and watched last week's show and tonight's. A few observations. Barry Bonds is one of my favorite all time players. I can forgive him for loving and playing on that lousy team up north. The show, in my view, shows a very likeable side of the guy. I like that. Still, if anyone has an immense hatred for the guy, I don't think it will change anything. If you watched tonight's episode (episode 2), it became VERY clear to me that the TRADE BARRY Topps sign was, in some part, set-up by the producers of this show, as I suspected, and I'm a bit ticked off by that. Why do I think that? The ESPN cameras... Last comment by: Brew Crew Fan @ 4/26/06, 4:30pm |

BGeeks Fantasy League and My Others: Week 1 (By: Reedster) |
After four days of play, the BGeeks are showing their fantasy knowledge with a last place standing! It doesn't help that we lost Garciaparra and Benitez right after the moves were closed... but as I posted on the message board there... Fantasy Lesson #1: Patience is a virtue I am pleased that my team is #1 in the rotoman experts league in the first four days... not that this means much... especially because I only have two closers in that league (20 team) and Tim Worrell is my second guy (Mike Gonzalez is my #1). I am in second to last in my money league. Disasterous outings from Freddy Garcia, C.C. Sabathia, and Andy Pettite have me looking to the top from the bottom.... |
Well, it is Opening Day, and I already have a stomach ache. I had Sabathia up... hoe does that third run get counted as earned when it resulted from Graves throwing a pick off throw to second away? Eek. And, I second guessed myself this morning. I wanted to replace Edmonds on my active roster with Murton. But, I didn't do it. Murton has a homerun already this morning. :( |
Re: Most wonderful time of the Year!!! (By: Reedster) |
This is strange for me. I have been so immersed in baseball for the past three months, what with this site and the podcast, that baseball Opening Day seems sort of anti-climatic to me. Wow. How weird. I am excited, sure... but it just doesn't feel like baseball has started. It started three months ago for me. :) Arguably, it never ended... I was entering statistics for playertrack in October. :) It might also be that it is raining here in Los Angeles, and I suspect that the Dodger game is going to be rained out. :( Last comment by: Guest11363 (IP: 220.148.85.17) @ 4/3/06, 4:16pm |

My money league draft results 2006: Anatomy of an Auction Draft (By: Reedster) |
This was the strangest auction draft in my 10 years or so of participating in this particular league. There were some INCREDIBLE values at the end of the draft, as you will see. I may have missed some picks in the latter rounds because I was busy tryingto catch up... but, here is the round by round summary with values. My team is "Rob's Mob." Gregg's team is "Special K." The number at the end of each line is the amount paid. This is a 5x5, with OBP instead of R and k/9 instead of K. $260 salary cap, where we select 22 players (2 C, 8 P, 1 1/3, 1 2/S, 1 1B, 1 2B, 1... Re: Kirby Puckett, dead, at the age of 44 (By: familyman) |
Kirby Puckett played half-the country away from me, but he was easily one of my favorite players. When the Twins were in the Series, winning twice, I saw them as Puck's teams. He was a fantastic, all-around player who did everything well despite looking like a fire hydrant. What's sad is how he left life. Not just because it was early but because he seemed so unhappy. He apparently ballooned in weight to over 300 pounds and was recently involved in very personal issues. He needed help, though it's possible that a lot of folks reached out to him since he did get engaged recently. I will remember is effervescent personality, his smile while playing a game he loved. I know he's punching... Last comment by: drrubb @ 3/6/06, 10:13pm |
